John MACKAY, merchant, born Dornoch abt 1788, married Janet SUTHERLAND, born Rogart abt 1798. She died at Altnaharra 1832. John and 5 children emigrated to Toronto, Ontario Canada in 1836.
John's siblings that I know of were Catherine, Andrew, John, Donald, and Hector. John's sister Catherine MACKAY born Dornoch abt 1790 married Donald GRANT, blacksmith, Embo, Dornoch. Catherine and Donald emigrated to Victoria County, Ontario, Canada in 1831 with 9 children. I have not found any records of the parents of the MacKays or of Donald Grant in Sutherland.
